01 / THE CONTEXT
Logistics is a chain of decisions.
A shipment is more than a point on a map. Moving product by truck or rail connects schedules, facilities, carriers, commercial arrangements and documents. Updates arrive from different systems at different times; the people coordinating the work need to see the whole movement and know what needs attention.
Wheelhouse is a VantEdge product for commodity logistics. Denting the Universe’s principals have worked on the platform in connection with VantEdge; product capabilities and customer relationships belong to VantEdge.
Across its portfolio, VantEdge serves major pipeline and energy infrastructure organizations including Trans Mountain, South Bow, Pembina and TC Energy. Its work spans energy, agriculture, rail, trucking and utilities across North America. VantEdge reports 75+ active clients; those are VantEdge relationships, not a separate Denting the Universe client count.
02 / THE PLATFORM
From schedules to shipment visibility.
VantEdge describes Wheelhouse as a platform for scheduling and shipment management. Its product information covers truck scheduling, railcar tracking, shipment documentation, notifications and operational reporting.
Wheelhouse’s track-and-trace documentation describes dashboards for railcar status, estimated arrival, trip and waybill information, and historical movement records. Its documented rail integrations use electronic data interchange to exchange shipment information with railroads, while its truck workflows include scheduling, check-in, check-out and carrier notifications.
VantEdge also describes synchronizing data from multiple TerminalBOSS sites into Wheelhouse. This connects facility-level activity with the teams coordinating shipments across an operation.
VantEdge lists electronic data interchange connections with Class 1 railroads including CPKC, CN, BNSF, UP and CSXT, as well as waybill and bill-of-lading exchange, cross-border documentation and shipment reporting. The challenge is to make information from different railroads, terminals and participants useful within the same operational workflow, while giving each team the schedules, documents and exceptions relevant to its work.
03 / GOVERNANCE & INTEGRATION
Operational visibility with accountability.
VantEdge lists role-based access, audit logs and advanced permissions among Wheelhouse’s governance capabilities, alongside integration planning for enterprise systems. These product capabilities help organizations give different participants access appropriate to their responsibilities while retaining a record of activity.
VantEdge also lists AI-assisted reading of bills of lading and truck tickets among its product features. Together with document management, exception handling and reporting, this illustrates how the platform connects physical shipments with the information teams need to act.
04 / WHY IT MATTERS
Operational information for different users.
A dispatcher, facility operator and commercial team may each need a different view of the same shipment. Schedules, documents, movements and exceptions become more useful when they remain connected to the operation they describe.
Our principals’ experience with Wheelhouse brings that challenge into focus: connect external systems and multi-party workflows so operational information is useful when decisions are made.
